CEBU CITY – A staff of an English-as-Second Language (ESL) center in this city was arrested Thursday afternoon for allegedly stealing money from Japanese students, the police said.
A record from the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) identified the suspect as Luigi Quibedo Osabel, 19, an office staff of SouthSpeak English Learning Center at Don Mariano Cui street, Capitol Site.
The suspect was arrested after the school’s office staff Samsneil Famulagan Cobrera sought for police assistance after he suspected Osabel stealing money from four Japanese students.
The victims were identified as Soshuu Takanachi, 23; Shota Tanaka, 23; Kazuki Toyeshi, 21; and Kana Mori, 20.
The victims reported to the school’s administration that their money, which they left in a room where the suspect was cleaning, went missing.
Cobrera said Osabel was the last person seen inside the room.
The suspect denied the allegations saying he left the room after cleaning.
“Naa man to CCTV pero wala man nila gipakita (There was a CCTV footage, but the school administration didn’t show it to the police),” he added.
The suspect is now detained in Police Station 2. (Marian Lyka Jaca, USJ-R Masscom intern/Sunnex)
