Mandaue Holiday - There will be no work and classes in Mandaue City on Aug. 30, as the City celebrates its 44th Charter Day celebration.
Malacañang issued a proclamation declaring Aug. 30, which falls on a Friday, a special non-working day in Mandaue City.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Mandaue be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies,” read Proclamation 628.
The proclamation was signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr., by authority of President Benigno Aquino III, last July 30.
Students and workers in Mandaue City will enjoy five non-working holidays this month.
Aug. 6, Tuesday, is a special non-working day in Cebu Province, as it celebrates its 444th founding anniversary.
Feast
There will be no work and classes on Aug. 9, Friday, which Malacañang declared a regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr or the Feast of Ramadhan.
Aug. 21, Wednesday, was declared a special non-working day in observance of Ninoy Aquino Day.
There will be no work and classes on Aug. 26, Monday, a regular holiday in observance of National Heroes Day.
The opening salvo of Mandaue’s Charter Day celebration is scheduled today. The month-long celebration will feature several activities, including cultural presentations and food festivals.
Councilor Diosdado Suico, chair of the Charter Day executive committee said P5 million has been set aside for the event.
History
Mandaue City became a city on June 21, 1969 by virtue of Republic Act 5519. But Presidential Proclamation 586 designated Aug. 30, 1969 as the date of the formal organization of the City Government.
More than 2,000 employees of City Hall are set to receive cash bonus ranging from P4,000 to P10,000 in time for the City’s 44th Charter Day celebration.
Regular employees will receive P10,000 each, while job order employees will get P6,000. Each of the Clean and Green workers and Barangay Health and Nutrition employees will receive P4,000.
